Russian President Vladimir Putin’s favorite TV propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, who is also known by the title “Putin’s voice,” has called on Russia to strike London.
Solovyov, who hosts shows on state-owned Russia-1, aggressively promotes the invasion of Ukraine, frequently travels to the frontlines, and routinely encourages every able-bodied Russian male to enlist or volunteer. He also regularly unleashes tirades about how Russia should wipe out its enemies with nuclear attacks. MailOnline‘s Chris Jewers said the TV personality’s monologues have become increasingly hawkish since Putin started the Ukraine invasion in February 2022, advocating for Moscow to sanction attacks against the West as Russian forces continue to struggle.
Putin’s top propagandist has also talked about the possibility of the U.K. sending fighter jets to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked the Western nations to donate warplanes amid reports the Kremlin is plotting a renewed offensive.
During one of his rants on his show, Solovyov said: “Can’t we finally strike London? What is the problem?” He followed this by mimicking the opposing people, saying “No, no, no. Only at military targets.”
“Well, at the Parliament too. They are going to give planes to strike deep into Russia’s territory,” he added, justifying the need to strike the Parliament.
Meanwhile, his critics found it ironic that his eldest son, 21-year-old Daniil Solovyov, is allegedly working as a male model in London instead of volunteering to go into battle. A viral tweet included a photo of Solovyov with his son, in addition to multiple pictures of Daniil, including one that appears to be professionally shot.
On Tuesday, Feb. 14, the host had no choice but to address the issue. He admitted that his son studied in London several years ago, but pointed out that Daniil is currently in Moscow, “living a difficult life of an average young person” and “not trying to dodge anything.”
Another one of Putin’s staunch supporters admitted on national TV that they had military failings in Ukraine, saying that Moscow “had to calm down a bit” after believing it would take over Kyiv in “a couple of weeks.”
Newsweek reported that despite making progress in the east and south of the country, Putin’s troops have suffered numerous setbacks on the battlefield because of Ukrainian counteroffensives and the continued weapons supply to Kyiv by the Western countries.
“A lot has happened over the year,” pro-Putin host Sergey Mardan said, referring to the war. “Although we are not satisfied with ourselves and although we have experienced quite a few disappointments over the year, we really believed at first that with one mighty blow we would raise the Russian flag over Kyiv in a couple of weeks.”
The Ukraine capital was initially the main target of the Russian army and Putin even sent paratroopers into the Presidential Palace to attack Zelensky right away. But after fierce Ukrainian resistance with the support of its allies, the Russian military was pushed back from Kyiv and Putin’s forces turned their attention to Eastern Ukraine.
“Russia is being treated very differently, much more seriously, than it was treated a year ago,” he added. “This is what the ability to project one’s power, including military power, is all about. That’s what distinguishes an independently politically subject country from a country just drawn on a map, there are a lot of them.”
